I've been apart of the Lancaster Pottery Den (formally Jen's Pottery Den) team as a studio assistant since the summer before my sophomore year of high school in June 2015. Lancaster Pottery Den is a paint-your-own pottery and ceramic studio located in Manhiem Township in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The studio has hundreds of pottery pieces to paint, clay wheel & hand building classes, event space to host private parties, summer camps, and monthly themed events & classes.
After a change in ownership in January 2022, I was offered the opportunity to create a new logo and brand identity for the updated studio space. I had no set requirements on what the new brand could be, but the owners wanted to move away from the dated and more children-focused entertainment space to something more clean, modern, and welcoming to all age groups.
I decided on a text focused wordmark logo to emphasize the businesses name. The vase icon is a simple yet effective inclusion of the pottery concept that can work with both painting and creating bisque.
I continued the brand identity into a style guide that could be referenced when creating marketing materials and additional items for the company.
Printed Materials
Advertisements, Business Cards, & Table Cards
The initial task request was to only create a logo and style guide, but I was able to expand the project to include some printed materials. Having worked in the studio for many years, I've recognized that the best way to get people to come back (either as a reminder to pickup their pieces or to return to create again) was to give them a takeaway item.
I created a postcard size handout, three different designed business cards, and a cheat-sheet with some pottery painting reminders.
Social Media & Marketing
Promotional Items for Events
For our events and summer camp, I assisted in some additional ways with creating social media posts and a t-shirt design for the 2022 Summer Camp.
While I still do work at Lancaster Pottery Den as a studio assistant on the weekends, after starting my full time role at Deloitte, I have transitioned off of the social media manager and designer role.
